Hi, it’s nice to meet you.
I am a Pennsylvania licensed, master’s level mental health therapist practicing in the South Hills of Pittsburgh specializing in working with adults (ages 18-108) who have experienced acute and complex trauma, including developmental relational and attachment trauma and single incident trauma. I also am passionate about helping women stand in their power and fully express who they feel they are on the inside and break free from the expectations put on them from their families, careers, or society.
I work with you to find the method that fits who you are. Upon our meeting, I will work with you to help identify the best method that will make you feel open and willing throughout the therapy process. I have an interactive style that is always compassionate and sometimes slightly challenging; giving you the support you need and the motivation to help you move in the direction of health, healing, and growth. I will support you throughout your process.
I offer methods of healing that don’t require words. I know emotions and experiences can be hard to express through words and talking alone. Art therapy can provide a safe outlet to release those feelings while helping you gain insight into yourself and your values and beliefs. My role is to help guide you through your own creativity to understand yourself. No artistic talent or background is necessary. I also am a trained EMDR therapist. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a clinically proven, evidenced-based treatment modality for acute and chronic PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other life concerns. This process focuses on your thoughts, emotions, memories, and body sensations to help untangle the complexities of your concerns. Engaging in EMDR requires very little talking and instead encourages you to focus on your internal experiences to help calm the storm within to find clarity.
I have the tools to help you grow. In addition to using creative and expressive therapies, I also work with you on skill building to help cope with life stressors using Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) or to help you work through and process traumatic experiences using narrative therapies. Using a Mindfulness based approach, I encourage each of my clients to give themselves the opportunity to do something different with their feelings and let themselves be open to a moment of peace. I believe we heal when our bodies, minds, and souls are able to work in harmony together and be a more authentic version of ourselves. With a holistic approach, I can help you re-integrate these elements to help you feel grounded and whole again.
I trust all humans are naturally resilient. That means you—yes, you!—can bounce back from tough experiences. I also understand sometimes support from a neutral person can empower you to navigate life’s transitions and adjustments. You have the answers to your concerns inside of you, and sometimes just need a bit of help uncovering them.
Thank you in advance for allowing me the opportunity to walk with you on your journey.

Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Counselor #PC007024
Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) who has been working in the field of mental health for over 18 years. I work with both adolescents (11yo+) and adults (18yo+) who have a variety of concerns, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, autism, anxiety, depression, behavioral and school issues, suicidal thinking, addiction concerns, and folx in the transgender community.
Over the course of my career, I have assisted clients with a wide variety of struggles, including behavioral and school related issues, autism, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Working in community mental health clinics, school settings and outpatient offices provided me with the opportunity to assist a variety of populations including students with behavioral and emotional concerns, adults and children with anxiety and depression, those in the transgender community, adults and children with PTSD and traumatic experiences, those who engage in self-harming behaviors with and without suicidal thoughts, those with addiction issues, and those who deal with domestic violence. I pride myself in learning who my clients truly are so that I can establish an authentic and meaningful connection with each of them.
I use a variety of tools and approaches to assist my clients, including CBT, EMDR, and Polyvagal Theory. I will work with you to find ways to empower you and help you learn the skills needed to deal with the various problems in your life that causes you negativity and pain that leads to poor self-concept, low-self-esteem, and much worse. I incorporate tools from Polyvagal Theory to help you learn how to regulate emotions and behaviors using mindfulness and other somatic interventions to enhance your sense of safety, trust, and connection within yourself and with the other relationships in your life. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to help you process stuck patterns of thinking, negative beliefs of yourself, and traumatic experiences. I am here to help you work toward healing and identifying alternate paths to address your individual needs and concerns.
Please know that I am here to assist you in learning how to feel better and to become more empowered to deal with issues that life has thrown at you. No matter what age we are, we all have obstacles to overcome. I invite you to allow me to travel with you along the pathway of life’s hardships so that, together, we can work toward you conquering them as you move forward toward inner peace and healing. Finally, I would like to give credit to the writer and poet Maya Angelou who once stated so eloquently, “We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” I believe that this speaks very clearly to the therapeutic process, as difficult as it may be to go through, but leading to the positive transformation you can achieve.
Thank you for reading,
Carolyn

Who I Work With
I specialize in working with children, teens, and adults who struggle with low self esteem, behavioral and school related issues, life transitions, struggles with maintaining healthy boundaries, anxiety, depression and those who experience overwhelming thoughts that interfere with day to day activities.
How I Work
I have the ability to help you find your positive qualities and offer you the tools to help you believe in yourself again. By using positive psychology techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution focused therapy, all through a trauma-informed lens, I can help you take ownership of your life in a way that empowers you to replace old ways of being, thinking, and doing with healthy, powerful, and impactful thoughts, feelings, and actions.
I enjoy helping clients discover skills tailored to their individual needs and understand their feelings so they have the power to respond to all of life’s ups and downs. I am here to help you think beyond your problems—we will work together to identify how we can we tackle these issues together and come up with a plan for you to live the life you want! I am also skilled at challenging my clients to look at those nagging, intrusive, and sometimes scary thoughts and urges and reframing them into tools you can use to your benefit, not detriment. I also incorporate playful and expressive forms of therapy with kids (and adults if you want!) to help you be able to fully show up in the therapy space as your authentic self. Sometimes we need a safe space to be who we are on the inside, not just the mask we show the world, and I am that space for you.
Who I Am
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. I’ve always enjoyed working with children, teens, and adults in my 8+ years as a counselor where I’ve worked in a variety of settings including schools, community mental health clinics, outpatient offices. I earned my master’s degree in Professional Counseling with a specialization in School Counseling from Carlow University and a bachelor’s degree in Social Services from Chatham University.
I use a trauma-informed, person-centered approach, meaning I view every person as an individual and understand the unique complexities people go through. I will treat you as the distinct person you, or your child, are during our work together. I also believe in the healing power of lighthearted humor and foster an environment where this can happen in the therapy process. We will work together to help you or your child be the person you want to be. My goal as your therapist is to amplify your strengths to support you in overcoming difficult challenges.
Thanks for taking the time to learn about me and how I can best help you!
